The Invaterm method is implemented through a defined process to ensure reliable and consistent outcomes.

01

Assessment & Analysis

We conduct a thorough assessment of the affected area to determine the extent of the infestation.
02

Customised Treatment Plan & Pricing

A project-specific treatment plan is developed, supported by transparent, fixed pricing.
03

Installation & Commencement

We install the equipment and commence the thermal treatment process.
04

Process & Temperature Monitoring

We continuously monitor temperature and treatment progress using the TerraTerm system.
05

Final Inspection

Following completion of the treatment, a final inspection is carried out to verify the results.
06

Follow-Up & Guarantee

We provide ongoing follow-up and a performance guarantee on the completed work.

How It Works

Treatment

The treatment is carried out using a patented thermal method in which the soil is heated from below and upwards until the entire root system is destroyed by heat.

Other plants and organisms within the treated area are also affected, and surrounding vegetation may be impacted depending on soil conditions and groundwater levels. Nearby trees and plants can therefore be damaged if located too close to the treatment zone.
Chemical-Free
The treatment is completely chemical-free, and the soil can be replanted once it has cooled. To support natural microbial recovery, restore biological balance by applying compost or organic soil amendments after treatment.
Replanting
As the treatment typically takes less than one week, replanting can usually begin two to three weeks after commencement of the process.

Equipment

We use different equipment configurations depending on the size of the treatment area.

Larger sites require space for a 10-foot container and a crane for positioning. The crane must be able to access the site safely, which typically requires compacted gravel or stable ground conditions.

Smaller treatment areas do not require a crane and generally need no more space than a standard parking bay.

Treatment Area

Prior to each project, we review site conditions together with the client. Japanese knotweed often produces extensive underground rhizomes that may extend several metres beyond the visible growth.

Treating a larger area reduces the risk of regrowth, but may increase project cost and impact surrounding vegetation.

To ensure the most effective and cost-efficient outcome, we aim to optimise the treatment boundary by typically positioning it close to the outer extent of the infestation to minimise the risk of surviving rhizomes producing new shoots.

Post-Treatment

Within the primary treatment zone, invasive plants are treated deeply and at high temperatures to ensure thorough root destruction.

To minimise the risk of surviving rhizomes, we also treat an additional perimeter, typically up to two metres beyond the main infestation area, at a shallower depth.

If isolated rhizomes extend beyond the treated zone, they are generally easy to manage, either through intensive cutting to exhaust energy reserves or by excavating shallow roots. In most cases, this can be handled without the need for further thermal treatment.

Based on our experience, additional post-treatment is rarely required.

Guarantee

We provide a performance guarantee covering complete root destruction within the designated deep-treatment area.

Areas outside this primary treatment zone are not covered by the guarantee.

In the unlikely event that follow-up treatment is required, alternative methods may be applied to minimise impact on surrounding vegetation and wildlife.

Each situation is assessed individually.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions about the Invaterm Method

In most cases, a single treatment is sufficient. The treatment process typically takes around one week to complete.

Once the treatment is complete, the soil is ready for planting, construction or other use immediately.

We provide a 3-year performance guarantee on the treated area.

Our equipment requires access to water (via a standard garden hose) and three-phase power supply.

If these are not available on site, we can provide water tanks and a generator. Please note that generator and water tank hire may incur additional costs.
